  • Answer:

you didnt say which code? There are 3 main codes of football in Australia. Depending where you are one of two will be most easily to folllow. The true national game is AFL. There is a following across Australia and teams in every city and state except NT and Tas. The next biggest code is NRL. It is only taken seriously in NSW and QLD therefore it is not a national game although anyone in NSW or QLD would have you think it is. The other code is soccer. Soccer is played through out the country but only has a small following and is not played to a very good standard as most talent is played in other codes (AFL). I would recommend AFL over any other code. Simply cos its played everywhere, has the largest following and is played to the best standard. It is our true national game and anywhere you are a team will represent and more teams are emerging. It is a hard game to grasp at first and can seem a bit chaotic when you dont understand the flow and play but enough exposure and you will learn. I was with a Japanese girl a few years ago and she became a loyal Sydney Swans supporter. Anyone can learn how it works and you just have to watch and maybe do some research. Good luck.
