    Queenstown = expensive. Fly into Auckland, Drive down country through Waikato and visit the Waitomo caves - they have black water rafting. Then head to New Plymouth, 13km long coastal walkway (paved), and head up to Mt Taranaki - easy to hard walks - 1 hour to 4 days. Then drive south to Wellington, visit Parliament, make sure you go to the wind turbine (best views over Wellington) and fly home from Wellington. This route is a cheaper more interesting option than the traditional tourist trails. Go to www.taranaki.info
