Is Massey University good?

  I went to Massey from 1995-2002 and I loved it. I'd never been to Palmy before and wasn't sure what to expect. I spent my first year in the Halls of Residence which was a great place to meet new friends, party, as well of the convenience of being of close. The actual main campus is 10 mins from town. If you're going to live somewhere in town getting to campus isn't a problem. A great bus service and lot of students ride their bikes as it's not far, great cycle lanes and Palmy is flat, although sometimes windy, as you'll find out. Palmy is known for being a student city, and comes alive when the students return from holiday. There isn't a hell of a lot to do, so movies are high on the list. There's heaps of pubs/bars/cafes. I think I recall Palmy having the highest number of bars/cafes per capita. And there's other things to do but not heaps, especially if you're a poor student. You can visit The Esplanade for a walk, there's swimming pools, the shops in town are good, the beach is about 30 minutes drive away. Drinking, is always a big thing to do. Palmy students have had their little drunken riots but not for years, to my knowledge. As for drugs... I have no idea. I'm sure if you're into that kind of thing you'd find a way. As with any student population there's all kinds of stereotypes. Remember Massey has a large agriculture/horticulture component so occasionally you'll see students walking through campus in their gumboots (I was one of them). I think you'll have a great time, as long as you make some friends, who can show you around.
