Whats going on with nrl crowds in sydney?

    How many times does this come up?? I take it you're referring to the crowd at Suncorp yesterday .. and you can't see that this was a top-draw game, in a one-team Town? There are 9 Sydney teams out of the 16 teams in the competition, and the Raiders and Newcastle. Now tell me how Brisbane would react with 9 teams in their surrounds, and how the Sunshine State would shape up with as many teams spread around their towns??? What is it with the Queensland push ... your teams' rosters would be spread a lot thinner than they are now, and maybe they wouldn't be able to attract as many people as they are able to with one team in Brisbane, one on the Gold Coast and one in FNQ. *** EDIT : Jake .. I've lived in Melbourne .. the only other thing to do there is sip lattes!! Of course they get 30,000 to a game .. They're Victorians, they follow the Storm as well!!

Well the NRL is more interested in serving their masters, ie News Limited, which means Foxtel. The way they mess around with starting times, never promote games thru tv advertisements seems to indicate the viewing numbers are more important than those that actually attend games. That is probably why NRL outrates AFL on Foxtel because there are bigger crowds at the game, The other reason is that Rugby League comes up better on TV than it does live. I am sure there has been a couple of 30,000 plus crowds in Sydney so far

well it was wet and rainy so you can understand that would keep fans away. but the big thing is no sudnay game was scheduled in Sydney. rugby league is biggest in sydney and they didnt even have one game!

Paramatta v Roosters last week was sold out, junior prices were unallowed and extra seats had to be sold!!!! just because a game isnt over 20.000 dosent mean it isnt good, not all staduims can even fit that! Also, im sure if NSW had 3 teams, they would have much bigger crowds and fans. Your not very bright... This is just a brief version of dragon's. It isn't so much the crowds at the games, it is when they are put on. As YC said, the television people Nine as well as Fox want night games for ratings purposes. What we have now is two Sunday afternoon games (which often includes the Warriors at home) with the rest on at night. Night games tend to keep families away because of the lateness when they get home from the games. As well, this weekend saw no Sunday games in Sydney, for the third time this season. Get rid of a Friday night game and put on another Sunday game or even a three o'clock Saturday game when the NRL is expanded. Edit: AFL gets better crowds because of their draw. Next weekend there are two day games in the NRL and five day games in the AFL. If this was reversed, we would see an increase in NRL crowds. The night games agre great for TV but that's it.

i no its **** crowds down there, up here in brisbane even on a monday game we still get atleast 25000 and thats **** but by sydney standards thats great. so sad:(

Parra v Penrith game was completely sold out. ...but other than that - yes, Sydney ususally get quite poor crowds, and yes, when deciding where to add the new team, they will be considering things such as supporter bases etc.

Yeah people in sydney just don't go to games as much... crowds in AFL are massive compared to them ones in Sydney. There should be at least one mroe Brisbane team and another QLD team. There probably should be less sydney teams. I would say the Sharks are broke and don't get much crowds and some of the others occupy sucha small area of sydney they should merge but i know clubs dont want to do that because a lot of them are rivals. So i suppose League fans just stay at home and watch matshes on TV
