What to wear horseback riding?

  • This is my first time horseback riding. I am only going for a birthday party but we are going on a five mile trail ride. I have no idea what to wear. Any ideas? Shirt? Shoes? Pants? I ...show more

  • Answer:

A five mile trail ride can build up a lot of blisters! If you wear jeans, make sure they don't have an inside seam down the leg, that can rub your leg raw. That's why Wrangler jeans don't have one, only outside seam. Make sure the fit is only slightly loose, too loose will bunch up, too tight and you won't be able to get on/off or breathe. Most important is a shoe with a heel and closed toe. You want enough heel to keep your foot from going through the stirrup. Tennis shoes are not a good idea.

Hey there Caza Terra! Oh, I envy you!!! You're going to have so much fun! Wear loose fitting jeans, so you have wiggle room, and can bend your legs; a comfy T-shirt in any color but white, as horses are dirty, and you will get it on you, =-) a long sleeved flannel shirt that you can put on or take off according to temp, and undergrowth; your comfiest undies, as you don't want any bunching; thick socks and any closed toed shoe or boot with at least a quarter inch heel, (but no high heels!), a bill cap or other hat to keep the sun off your head, sunglasses; sunscreen, and bug spray! Have Fun! C

Wear jeans and a comfortable t-shirt, clothes you don't have to fuss with. Jeans are heavier weight cloth that will give you a bit more protection against chafing than something like a light cotton pair of slacks. If you have a durable pair of leather walking shoes with a flat heel, wear those, otherwise wear sneakers. If it's going to be cooler, take a sweater.

As well as jeans and t-shirt I'd suggest you wear big comfy underwear, I find the more padding the better!

Just make sure it is comfortable. You can wear sneakers. Shorts are a bad idea if you go riding! My friend did that once, and rubbed the inside of her calves raw from them being in contact with the straps holding the stirrups (which are what you put your feet in).

you have to waer rding pants or just some whet pants and i shirt it would be so much better if the shrit had a horse on it and for shoes if you have any shoes with a bit of a heal on them that is what you need for riding Hope you have fun!!!!

jeans, sneakers, t-shirt (not white, it'll get sooooooooo dirty), and bring a sweatshirt if it'll get chilly. don't stress over it, just have fun.

If you can barrow someone else's boots or have some rubber boots then wear leggings. Otherwise wear jeans, a tank top (since its summer you'll probably get really hot), tennis shoes (but preferably boots with a heel) And don't forget a helmet! Best wishes!

Wear jeans and a comfortable shirt appropriate for the weather. Wear boots or a closed shoe to protect your feet. Maybe a hat to protect your face from the sun. Hope you enjoy yourself! A five mile ride will be tough on a first time rider. You are most likely going to get sore so prep yourself for that! Oh yeah, if you have dainty hands you might want to buy or borrow a pair of riding gloves. They are not expensive and your hands will be protected from the rub of the reins. If you are used to working with your hands then they will be fine without gloves. Have fun!
