What is the Model United Nations?

• I'm a little confused about the MUN. I've heard about it, but I have no idea what it is. Please tell me what it is and what it is about.

  I should be able to answer this for you, seeing as I just got back from the one in the Palmer House Hilton Hotel in Chicago! Basically, schools from all over the world go to this conference, and they hold it a few times each year in multiple venues. So, the students from these high schools get one or two countries assigned to them. Then, the students get paired up into groups of two and represent their assigned country in each UN committee. My partner and I represented our country in the LEGAL Committee. Each committee has two topics, Topic A, and Topic B. Each partner chooses one of the topics and learns everything they can about it. Once you get to the conference, you give speeches in front of the other "delegates" from other schools, representing other countries, and you state your views, make compromises, give persuading speeches, and try to resolve the conflict in a way that all countries will benefit.
