malta had joined the Eu in 200 When Malta voted to join the European Union, 53% were in favor of this and 45% were against it. It offers some advantages for example movement of people through the European Union member countries is free. We also have the opportunity to study, work, and train and for the purposes of retirement and simple residence. There was concern though, that this membership would be a threat to Malta's independence, additionally the residents of Malta were worried that they would be exposed to unwanted immigrants. Additionally, the country also thought they would be submitting economically to larger states.

Malta is a really small country that Katherine needs to research. Portugal is the country to the left of Spain and is being researched by Sam. The speak Portuguese. WTF is ESTONIA!!! Isn't it the furthest north of the 3 countries (estonia, latvia, lithuania)? Turkey shall never join the EU because it will just cause legal problems which will need to be paid for. LOL. Hi Alex :)
