How does the EU benefit the U.S?

How would countries benefit from joining the EU?

  • Lets say a country like Turkey, it wants to be a member, but cannot. How will it benefit to the EU as well?

  • Answer:

the original benefit of the EU was that in addition to not having toll between them any more, its voice was heard a lot more than that of the single countries. the standard of living of the community members was approximately the same. now it is a lot different, all the newcomers need and receive large, if not to say, enormous amounts of money from the EU. it will need time to bring up the standard of living in these countries and alot of people are getting disgusted at having to pay and pay and pay for the newcomers. this goes for turkey also. thing is, that only a minute part of turkey is european, the big rest is asian and an entirley different culture on top of that. just think that the EU countries so far are all christian. some other issues of the conflict over cyprus, americans having military bases in turkey, the death penalty and torture in turkey and many more problems like those. if you ask me - i am austrian - i cannot see a profit for the EU, just another huge financial burden( austria is the 2nd biggest net payer to the EU ), an increasing islamisation, possible loss of the christian traditions and culture, possible involvement in turkeys problems with the kurds, with cyprus, with water and so on. most important of all - at least to me- is that turkey never admitted the genocide on the armenians and long as it keeps this attitude, it does not have the right to join. as a pun i could add that vienna, austria, has been besieged by the turks 2 times, in 1529 and 1683. they were driven back both times, but right now this is the third time and chances are that they will win.

Turkey would benefit by being able to rip us off for billions of pounds and also have complete access to our country without any hindrance. Britain will be further impoverished by these immigrants who will use our system to claim child benefit for children in Turkey and also send money back from which will form and invisible import reducing our currency to the lowest level possible. Time to leave the EU and send all the EU scroungers back home.

the smaller the country the better. it is an organization that helps countries that have been war torn and it also helps get rid of poverty in countries (in the EU of course). this has disadvantages because the bigger countries have to pay huge sums of money and the smaller countries don't. it also helps solve the disputes between european countries.

Turkey benefits from being allowed access to EU development funds to grow its economies and develop depressed areas. In addition the major factor is the European Market place, its goes from a market of its own population to 1/2 a billion overnight. In the longterm the EU usually does benefit, if you take the example of my own country Ireland. We were a basket economy for decades then EU funds aided development, on top foreign investment was attracted by access to the EU market and low taxes. Now Ireland is a contributor to the EU economy paying in our portion of GNP into the EU.
