  • Answer:

The North Koreans were the first to cross the 38th parallel, invading South Korea (U.N.) When they pushed the U.N. down to the Pusan Perimeter, the U.N. retaliated and pushed the North Koreans back across the 38th parallel and into China. This is when the Chinese came in to fight and they sided with the North Koreans.

North Korean troops were first to fight. China came in on their side and spent the lives of nearly a million of their excess men fighting that war to a standstill.

Yes, it was Mao's communist hordes who attacked the UN troops in Korea.

China didn't technically attack the UN at all. The UN 'police action' as it was called was only to push the North Koreans back to the border of the 38th Parallel. The US then unilaterally pushed over the border, right up to China, and actually shelled Chinese territory. China then came in and aided the North Koreans, and pushed the US back to the 38th, and stopped there. By stopping at the border, China never attacked the UN.
