The EU is to let more refugees settle, would it be more cost effective to actually resolve the issues?

I think the EU and UK should change their policies dramatically... starting in england, when refugees or illegals are found deport them immediately! so many are told to report to various places and then simply disappear! We should focus more on securing the entry points to the country. England is ridiculous now, there are way too many foreigners here. I would not mind if they worked and spoke the language but so many come here to sponge off our taxes. If the illegals thought they would not get anything here, they would not bother coming! This country is becoming a joke.

Think you've hit a big nail right on the head, as surely it is merely shifting part of the problem to here - a problem shared is a problem halved right? Just a pity they bring it with them. Admittedly we shouldn't turn our back on these people, but the government aren't the ones having to live with this problem in low class inner city areas etc. (or do they put them in camps?), but they're the ones who can help resolve it - and what the hell is the UN for? And the british people can't really help them anyway on a personal level. We all have our own problems to deal with. There are charities set up specifically for this too. Give them extra help maybe? Anyone who says it isn't causing a issue has their head stuck in the sand, or up they're **** more likely. I don't really have to deal with it myself either where I live, so I could just say bugger it, but I care. No one should live in oppression and poverty, but like you say bringing it here isn't dealing with it at all. As for the cost, I no longer think the economics of it are in the thoughts of the British anymore - could the govt stop giving millions to the EU and countries like India (with more billionaires than anywhere else, a big space program, and military) and put it where it's really needed? In the long run though, surely getting a country back on it's feet would open up opportunities for trade, and less reliance on charity/foreign aid? Can I make a point to Nimrod. You say direct responsibilty? That certainly isn't me. It's probably not even 99% of our population. Why should we live with someone elses mistakes? Help them on their own ground. With the pressure taken off of our shores, that could be focused more on the country in question. And like I said above, stop putting money in the hands of people who don't need it.

If ever the people of this country wanted a good reason to pull out of the EU, this is it. The EU are only announcing this because they have secretly agreed to allow Turkey in, and Europe is going to be flooded with Islam. And you can take a good guess at where 99% of those Muslims are going to end up....In Britain as (more new labour voters) jumping on the free ride that labour are offering for their votes. Face it British people. this is not immigration. this is a quiet Islamic invasion lead by our own traitorous parliament.

From one perspective it might be better to have a permanent peacekeeping force in trouble spots to train our troops and stabilise terrorist breeding grounds. Whilst keeping the great unwashed off our jobs. From another perspective, diplomacy might be more effective and our lagging economy could be invigorated with loads of cheap skilled labour. In the real world. The choice depends on the two countries involved in the exchange. The UK doesn't have an army big enough for every hotspot, but diplomacy won't work everywhere. Some countries have a highly educated labourforce, others might have nothing but a desperate need for protection. Balancing this dynamically in an imperfect world is not easy even when the politicians do get it right. So heckling from the cheapseats is probably what they live for.

By Eu they mean the UK, they'll have signs up all across Europe pointing towards Britain. A better solution would be to forget about other conflict zones and just shut the door on immigration. The EU is a joke. I don't see Belguim or Holland or France taking in the huge numbers

We should do all we can to help refugees, put yourself in their position and you might think differently. If the people are in genuine need of asylum then all speed must be made to make them safe. Prevention may be better than cure, but when one's country has meddled to such a degree that it has destabalised the refugee's country and made it unsafe for them to remain there, then surely we must act to ensure the safety of people that we have a direct responsibility for.
