How do we make recycling in your city more frequent and efficiently?
-
What can we do to make neighborhoods and cities have more recycling centers and have the city participate in more recycling programs
-
Answer:
some things we are doing in our city are utilizing the assistance of teen from the high school during recycling events like city recycle day where electronics and large appliances are handed in for recycling we also pass out recycle bens to the public along with the list of things being recycled in the area as well as info for where to take things that the city doesn't pick up curb side...we do city clean up ,recycling at the schools with small groups of kids in each school, this take some time to get started ,but getting 1 teacher and from each school to get his or her group started place bens in each class room with a list of what can be put in the ben then the kids collect it every few days and place it into recycle containers that the city picks up,,then have all the city departments get involved, this is all included in your taxes you pay ,,we have a different truck that picks up recycle bens only ,have efficient light bulb sales along with tree sales and recycle ben hand outs make it a big even once a year ,,trees for reduced price ,plants in spring this is a big thing in our town! hope this helps

when i was a kid and recycling came to my town, first, they let people know it was going to happen in advance, then they said by such and such a date, you will be fined if you throw away your recyclables and they actually hired kid to go through people's trash and issue tickets. it worked. people don't like being hit in the pocketbook.

On a weekly basis, I put my recyclables in a bin that is picked up and yard waste in other containers, also picked up. We do not have to separate the recyclables, either, though some people still do. So in my case, it's already part of our lives. I know when I moved away from here for some time I was in a town without and I kept every plastic bottle and aluminum can until I could find a place. My storage closet was full! I would think there'd be groups out there that could make recycling a project, even earning money or creating products from what they collect. We also have areas that have been "adopted" by organizations and clubs, and they're supposed to keep them clean. I've seen neighbors put their aluminum cans in bags aside from regular recycling so someone else could pick them up to earn money for themselves or their project. One HUGE issue I've seen, however, in my "green" town is the waste produced daily in the school system. Makes me think I need to ask a question...

The only way it eill work is if the city provides two cans instead of one. Driving glass and plastic to a "recycle" center is stupid. If they would provide me with another can same size as the trash can I would start throwing cans, plastic and clean paper and glass in one can and everything else in the other. I don't want a little green tub or container either - a real garbage can.

i've always been intrested in recycling but never really did it. one day i received a flyer in the mail from the city explaining the process, why it is important, etc. and locations of the drop off bins in my area. they are conveniently located by the local library a few blocks from my house. i always knew they were there but never really thought about actualy recycling my trash. so anyway the whole point is inform people and have the bins located somewhere convenient if pick ups can not be made at people's homes. sadly everytime i drop off my stuff they are nearly empty. sending out flyers or posting signs anything to inform people why it is important should engourage them to participate.

you can make posters and put them up and you can also make flyers and put them in peoples doors. You can also see if your mayor will have a meeting on t.v. about everyone recycling like a whole town project. It would be a really great recycling job.
