At that rate, if you work full time (40 hours per week), you'd make 1320 in two payroll cycles (4 weeks). If you work part-time, it could be substantially less, thus your friend telling you you're below the poverty line. Every employer has to post a sign in the breakroom listing the minimum wage. You should look over you paystub and make sure you're being paid accurately.
