Would many small bee keeping operations help the dwindling bee population?

    Yes, but not how you think. Some bees, just because of genetic variation will be immune to whatever is killing bees off. The more bees there are in different areas, the more likely some are to have a positive genetic defect. When identfied, these good hives can be divided and used to repopulate the bee population.

Could be if those bees were kept in small, organic environments using sustainable methods. Might also help if those beekeepers were called in to rescue bees that otherwise might have been eradicated by an exterminator being called in by a property owner who was bothered by the bees, either indoors or out or even in the walls of a house. This is being done sometimes in N. California & hopefully in other areas as well.
