Anyone know any wildlife or nature conservation programs a college student can participate in for free?

I want to make a difference somewhere abroad, but everything I look at costs so much. I'm not looking to get paid, but I don't want to pay either.

Answer:
Why don't you do a google search for internships in wildlife conservation? This way you can find reputable organization that offer programs designed for students. Many internships within these fields are unpaid, but you may find one that will pay you a stipend or offer you paid housing. These programs are generally very competitive and offer a great learning experience and can be found all over the world. However, if you are looking to work overseas, or anywhere a long distance from where you currently live, you will have to pay your own relocation costs, so keep that in mind.

I recommend that you start researching the United States Department of Agriculture website they have plenty of useful information and they also have a volunteer group (THE EARTH TEAM) which you can inquire via here-------> http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/feature/volunteers/vol/join.asp Hope this was helpful ;)

I'm not sure if you're interested in wildlife research or not, but there are usually quite a few researchers that need field assistants for their projects. Some of them pay small stipends, some of them pay for airfare and lodging while you work, some of them expect you to cover transportation but put you up at a field site. A lot of researchers will take people with no prior wildlife experience, others don't. I'd check out the Texas A&M Univ. wildlife jobs website, everyone in the wildlife sciences posts jobs there. I wish I had known about it while I was in undergrad... http://wfscnet.tamu.edu/jobboard/index.htm Check under temporary/seasonal jobs and internships. Good luck!

hm... if you are a college student, there is a program somewhere in your school that deals with wildlife or natural conservation programs. where should you look? try the biology, chemistry, or the physics department. ask people in those department about the clubs they have on campus. you'll be surprised to know what they do to help mother nature, and you will probably change your major.

I also highly suggest the SCA...google them and go to their website to look at what programs they have coming up and fill out an application!! Also, its worth a try to ask your school's counselor in the environmental / geography department for other resources.

You can Always volunteer to be an assistant Scoutmaster. (or whatever they call the leader-assistants for Girl Scouts...) Boy Scouts (and Girl Scouts) will often do environmental conservation projects as part of their program. You'd get to do some stuff to help the environment and help younger kids learn valuable leadership and other skills. (OK anyone under 25 is a kid to me :p ) Assumes the local Scouting group is being run correctly... But when they aren't being run correctly its usually due to lack of volunteers to help teach the kids. So by volunteering you could help make the program work the way its meant to work.

The SCA is a great program, it's free but you have to pay for transportation check out the source for more info about SCA
