  • Answer:

I would go to the place that have karaoke at night and sing. You will have many people who can give you tips and tell you how you sound. Or post a song or two on youtube and ask for what others think.

take no notice of the answer about if you need lessons you'll never make it, very few people can get anywhere without lessons, many top singers continue to have lessons throughout their career. unfortunately free singing lessons are unlikely to be good ones, perhaps you should keep practicing what you've learnt and recommence lessons when your finances are better. What is more important is that you are learning to sing correctly, from your diaphragm, learning breathing techniques and the correct vocal exercises for your voice and which to use before singing and after. The danger of learning from the web or taking advice from others it is either general or been given to them for their voice which may not be right for yours. your voice needs different exercises at different points in it's development, using the wrong ones can do more harm than good. Also if you are not singing from the diaphragm you are singing from your throat and you will be likely to force out the high notes, shout or scream notes, this is in the long term going to damage your vocal chords, professional singers who do this seem to have unexplained breaks, because they have to rest their voice, or may even be in hospital. Early warning signs that you are doing this damage are constant coughs and/or sore throats craking of the voice on high notes and nodules on the vocal chords. I hope you have been singing from the diaphragm, all I can advise at the moment is to continue practising what you have learnt, or stop singing if you have not been singing from the diaphragm, continue or change your tutor if necessary when you are in a financial position to do so. Good Luck

Ask at the local college/university and see if any of their students would be willing to try out teaching you. A lot of the time, they are just as good, if not better than other teachers, you can offer them a reference so that they can charge new pupils too.
