Answer:
They call it fasting for a reason. Yom Kippur was always my least favorite holiday growing up Jewish. We had to sit in synagogue all day, and I would always be incredibly hungry. But hey, you feel really thankful for what you have once it's over.

No food or water at all with one exception. HEALTH. The torah states that it is your civic duty to keep your body healthy since it is god's; not yours. So, you may eat or drink for health reasons if absolutley nessesary.

First, it makes little sense to follow bits and pieces of a religious holiday if you are not going to observe it for its actual purpose. If you like the idea of fasting, you could do that on any day. Otherwise, what's the point? In other words, go all the way or don't bother in the first place. However, if you decide that you want to observe Yom Kippur, you should know that this is not solely a "Jewish -only" holiday. Jesus and all of the Apostles observed the Biblically commanded holy days and nowhere in either the old or new Testaments are Christians directed to violate those days. Today's abandonment of Biblical holidays by most Christians was initiated by the Roman Catholic religion which sought at all costs to disassociate their faith from Judaism. Bible believing Christians, however, have always observed these holidays without regard to Rome's heresy. In observing this holiday you have two options: to observe it as the Scriptures command us to do, or observe it by the man made phoney traditions that have been added to it. There is only two specific commands for Yom Kippur ACCORDING TO SCRIPTURE, and that is to abstain from any form of work and to devote the 24-hour period (from sundown to sundown) to the Lord for seeking absolution from sin by a burnt sacrifice. All other rules are man made nonsense, such as fasting, allowing the ill to evade the fast, wearing white clothes, no sex, etc. However, since the time of the death of Jesus of Nazareth, the Jews have discontinued offering burnt sacrifices (for some reason they have come to believe that a temple must exist in order to sacrifice, though the Scriptures do not say this). Since Israel does not accept Jesus of Nazareth as the Lamb of God who was the final sacrifice for sin, Jews stand in grave violation of the Law pertaining to Yom Kippur. According to Scripture, no one can earn salvation, and therefore a lamb MUST be offered in place of the sinner, else there is no forgiveness irregardless of their attempts at earning forgiveness by prayers or man made attempts at penitence (not eating/drinking, white clothes, etc etc.). If you do believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah and the Lamb of God who was sacrificed to take away the sins of them that believe on Him, then the observance of this holiday remains the same, except without burnt sacrifice (Jesus is that sacrifice). So either you need to move to Jerusalem and somehow persuade the entire nation of Israel to start sacrificing again, or you have to believe that Jesus IS that sacrifice. If you, or anyone else, are observing this holiday without the sacrifice of the Lamb, it is altogether as if you didn't observe it at all. -Rev. Jim Cunningham

I believe U eat or drink nothing; my parents were Jewish but we didn't practice that stuff ! I'm 2 skinny anyhow !

You cannot eat anything. Some less religious people will drink water even though they're technically not allowed to. But, if you're not Jewish and don't believe in the reason why Jews fast on Yom Kippur then you could do whatever considering you dont really have to.

Simple Little Ways
On Yom Kippur we are forgiven all our sins, and therefore we are absolutely pure, like angels. It is therefore the custom to wear white clothing, to appear like angels. It is also one of the many reasons we are forbidden to eat on Yom Kippur, since angels do not eat. On Yom Kippur we fast, but it is forbidden to fast on Erev Yom Kippur -- the day before Yom Kippur. In fact, Jewish Law states that we must feast on the day before Yom Kippur. The Talmud says that whoever feasts on the day before Yom Kippur is given merit and considered to have fasted two days! Aside from breakfast, we eat two festive meals on Erev Yom Kippur. We eat one meal in the early afternoon or late morning, and another after Minchah (the afternoon services). That one extends until late afternoon, and must end no later than about fifteen minutes before sunset. There is a custom among many people to eat kreplach on the day before
