    Straight from Israel ....... The proper greeting would be Gmar Hatima Tova: That's how we greet each other during the fast or you can say "Tzom Kal" which means have an easy fast. Its going to be a long weekend :-)

There is a formal greeting which starts off, "L'shannah tovah tikhataivun...." A less formal greeting is, "Chateemah Tovah," which may be used till Yom Kippur, and on Yom Kippur (day) we add the word "G'mar" to indicate that we hope G-d has already decided to grant you A Good Year.

Its not really that type of holiday. My parents both do yom kippur every year...and im suppose to as well...I dont call them and say happy yom kippur lol...as a matter of fact i dont even mention it. I try not to draw attention to their fasting etc.
