My friend and I are going to New York over Thanksgiving. My friend and I are also from the UK so we don't celebrate Thanksgiving. Do shops shut early on Thanksgiving day?

Many shops don't even open on Thanksgiving Day. And a huge part of the city is completely blocked off for the parade for half the day.

Most stores ( shops ) are open in the morning but close early. Those are like bake shops,deli shops and liquor stores. Restaurents are open to serve Thanksgiving dinners.The big department stores are closed.However the stores do open early on Black Friday ( the day after Thanksgiving ) ! And the sales are great !

Stores up the ante with earlier holiday hours that creep into Thanksgiving night, so much so that Black Friday is turning into Black Thursday. Bottom line: No...and some stores are even open later than usual
