What really happened on thanksgiving?

What happened to Thanksgiving?

  • I'm seeing a lot of Christmas commercials on TV but none for Thanksgiving. What happened?

  • Answer:

If you go out into the stores, you will see they have started stocking the shelves with Christmas items even before Halloween was here. Due to the economy, the retail market has taken a hit, so they are trying to promote Christmas as early and often as possible, hoping to get into peoples minds to go shopping. Thanksgiving is pretty much about food and family. So, when you get right down to it, what commercials will they show? The local supermarkets? They know your going to eat, and there are only so many places you can get the food, so they don't waste advertising spending over it. Companies wont get as much of a return on advertising as the retail chains will on Christmas, so they are trying to keep their profits.

I don't know if I've ever seen that many commercials for Thanksgiving. This is probably because that while it's still a major holiday it's a lot simpler than Christmas. Thanksgiving takes place on just one day and is really all about eating a lot of food and being with people you love. Christmas is ongoing and there's exponentially more stuff to buy which is the whole point of commercials. So you may see more commercials for foster's farms turkeys and such, but other than that it's not a very commercial holiday. Nowadays it's actually true that people spend more money on Halloween than they do on Thanksgiving.

It's pretty pathetic alright... Christmas now officially starts in October. It's disgusting. Thanksgiving still exists, but only in the right advertisements... since you don't actually buy Thanksgiving gifts, it's a lot less seen in advertisements and on TV and such... but hey, if you ever take a look at the cooking channel or the food section in the newspaper... bingo, it's everywhere.
