Are stores closed the day before Thanksgiving?

I called Walgreen's and the answering machine said they were closed. Why is that? Are all stores closed before Thanksgiving and why?

Most are closed, but some of the notorious "24-7" stores, (Wal-Mart, some grocery stores, etc.) will be open at least part of the day. I believe I read somewhere that most Wal-Mart stores will not be closed for Thanksgiving.
