Staple dishes on a traditional Thanksgiving dinner?

I know you said turkey of course, but I want to state that there are so many ways to prepare a turkey that it can be very specific to each family. For us we start with an herb butter roast turkey with a traditional bread stuffing. *drooling already* Our stuffing is made by ripping up a couple of loaves of white bread. I then season it heavily with sage, garlic and onion powder, poultry seasoning, thyme, rosemary salt and pepper etc. I leave it out for a couple of days to get really stale.... and partially eaten by my family! Then the day of I saute my carrots, onions and celery and mix that in and then stuff the bird. We always have sweet potato pie on the table as a side dish and not a dessert. Rolls, mashed potatoes, tons of gravy made from the drippings of the turkey. green beans with french onion soup mix (powder) added to it and a little butter, so good. Wine and apple cider. Pumpkin pie and apple pie for dessert. So good. Can't wait for Monday! Kim

I would say the absolute traditional staples are: Giblet gravy Stuffing Cranberry sauce Sweet Potatoes Pies (pumpkin, apple, or pecan) A lot of other stuff is common, but can vary from family to family. Those I would say, though, are the real staples-- a lot of people only put them on the table at T-day. Beyond that, I'd go with maybe mashed potatoes, rolls, a nice salad, and green beans (though i personally can't stand the casserole; I like them sauteed w/pepper & onions in butter).

For the dinner itself: Over roasted turkey with gravy Mashed potatoes Stuffing Dinner buns/rolls Cranberry sauce/jelly Roasted or steamed carrots Candied sweet potatoes or yams Steamed green beans or green bean casserole Pickled pearl onions dill pickles, gerkins, and pimento stuffed olives cheese (of course) A nice wine (whatever you fancy!) For dessert, many people have many different things, however; Pumpkin pie and apple pie are the most traditional. Pecan pie is also common. Some people make a nice rice pudding or spice cake. This year my mother is making her famous carrot cake <3 For traditional though, go for either pumpkin pie, pecan pie, apple pie, or apple crisp! :)
