In the United States, it is traditionally a day to give thanks for what we have. It is a time to celebrate community, both in a family setting and a larger more communal setting. Most Thanksgivings, my family (which is small) invites people who have no family or none close to share the traditional thanksgiving meal of turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, peas, sweet potatoes and dessert with us. It is time to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends and to mentally prepare for the coming winter and its attendant holidays.
