How do you cook a turkey so that it is not dry?

we have a turkey breast and do not know how to cook it. what do you baste it in? how often? how do you cook it? any suggestions would help.

here is the secret go to the store. get some of those bags that you bake the meat in. they are called oven bags. they usually are by the tin foil and ziplocks at the store but they are made for the oven. place breast in the bag with some onions, carrots, and a little water and rub spices on the meat. cook slowly at no more than 350. if you use the bag you dont need to baste but you need to watch it closely for when it is done. if you have therometer you want it at 165. when it hits that it is done and you take it out. then....let it sit for a bit. dont open it up right away. let it rest like 15 min. then open it and serve then. dribble the juice over it for extra juicy. that is the secrets

I have had to learn to make a good turkey since my grandma moved. So my husband LOVES his Thanksgiving dinner so what I found out is this. Clean the turkey well and makes sure there is NO blood. Lift the skin, mix poultry seasoning, sage ,olive oil and a stick of butter together and rub it in [under the skin and you can lift the skin by useing a big spoon] depending on how big your turkey is use your best judgement on how much you need. I have a big roaster so I wrap the top of the turkey in some Reynolds wrap to keep the moisture in. Bake it not on a super high heat - this dries it out. I put it on early on a lower heat and I mean not over 400. This works,I have had rave Turkey reviews the past 3 years! Happy Thanksgiving!

my mom puts two sticks of butter under the skin before she bakes it. Our turkey is never dry.

It's already been suggested, but I also recommend an oven bag. Works great!

If you have a slow cooker (crock pot) large enough for it to fit into on the bottom, use that. Put about an inch of liquid (chicken broth or water) in the bottom (along with chopped onions and celery etc. if desired to add flavour). Cook on high with lid closed and no peeking. Four hours later you will have a nice, well-cooked and moist breast of turkey. If you like you can do it the same way on low heat for twice as long with same results.
