Can a Paul Reed Smith guitar work for jazz and not just a rock guitar?

the sound is what matters the most. I don't think the jazz community will frown upon your guitar. I think a professional would respect such a nice instrument.

I've seen Joe Pass play a Fender Jaguar. John Mclaughlin plays solid body guitars as well as semi-hollow. He played a Fender Mustang on the Miles Davis album "Live Evil". Many jazz players play the thinline telecasters. I really don't see it as a problem. You will hear a different tone from a hollow body when played with no effects, so this is something you're going to have to figure out with your PRS: how to get a really nice jazz tone that's clean.
