  • Answer:

Yes. Every jazz musician worth mentioning, is capable of well executed classical style. You must be a master of your instrument to play jazz. I know thousands of "musicians" who called themselves "jazz musicians" but couln't play their instruments worth a damn. Since you already play the violin, have you considered playing jazz on that instrument? If you want to play jazz on your violin, Listen to Stephane Grapelli, or Duke Ellington's Cootie Williams. But in any case whatever instrument you want to play, please learn the instrument from a competent teacher, then listen to as many of the greats on that instrument as you can find. Jazz is more of an attitude than technique. Check out this website: http://www.jazzviolinist.com/
