To play guitar in a jazz band, do you need an electric guitar?
-
I want to be in the school jazz band, but my electric guitar is really cheap and sucks. I have a nice acoustic electric guitar, but do jazz bands usually have those in them?

Answer:
Yes you would need one because of solo demand from the guitar is huge in jazz. You can get more effects its louder and its lighter. The audience needs to hear you from away so could you imagine ac-dc with an acoustic dumb right...most performances have an electric but if there's an acoustic its on an amp I would suggest electric

For jazz, you really need an electric guitar OR a really good microphone to run the acoustic sound through!
