How do I play jazz guitar?

Jazz guitar? I play rock guitar now, although only for a couple of months,what should I know to change to jazz?

    Hey! Good idea! I like you kid! Get your hands on a "Real Book". Its a collection of songs that are played at jazz clubs. it'll force you to learn the chords and how to improvise (if usen correctly). If you can afford it, take guitar lessons. once or twice a week, 30 minute sessions. YOu will improve so fast. jazz is somewhat more on the advance side. At least know few variations of major and minor chords, because in jazz most of the chords are in 6th 7th, 9th, 13th or diminished and etc. Its not that difficult, its gonna take some time. but jazz will make a greater guitar play out of you due to its chords, scales and more. Its doesn't affect picking as much though, jazz is really a good art form and its shame to have no one to play it much. If you do join jazz you can solo and play cool chords progression

Jazz uses different scales and different keys. You should learn those keys for jazz. As far as picking goes, it really doesn't matter as long as you can make good music. If you are talented it is not that hard and jazz will always be around it's just a matter of finding it.
