Please help. Taking a History of Jazz class and need a term paper topic. Help?

    I'm also taking a Jazz History class. I have to write a term paper about the effects of jazz in Japan, but I'm not looking forward to it. I would suggest writing about the development of a certain style(s) of jazz like what led to it and why. Maybe explain why certain things got popular and trends changed. You could write about how jazz is a performers art rather than a written composition and the significance of that. America has always encouraged individualism and that reflects in some of the styles of music that we created. There's all sorts of topics you could write about, I'm sure you'll find something interesting. If all else fails just write about the impact of Miles Davis' work.

Is it for something specific, like a person? If so I'd suggest someone like Clifford Brown, who had a tragically brief life, preventing him from worldwide fame. Or, alternatively, the story of how one of the great jazz labels came to be. (Like Prestige, Impulse or Blue Note.) Or is it for something more abstract? Then you could write about something like the decline of the big band era with the popularization of rock 'n roll. Just a few ideas.

i got something.. wynton marcellous ( mis spelled i know ) but to go into depth on.. i got it.. the art of usage of the mute on a trumpet.. the so called .. waaa waaaa... that grabs the ear...but distant...id do that and good luck
