How many albums has Louis Armstrong released?

Expanding my music tastes - what are some solid jazz or blues albums?

  • I have some miles davis, louis armstrong,eric clapton, bb king, and a few others but overall my musical library is lacking in both jazz and blues.

I can't disagree with any of them ,however , if you are looking to ease into jazz I would suggest some of the more contemporary artists of today than the heavy hitters of yesteryear.These are your listen at work type artists that you may hear daily on a local jazz station.The sound is more robust & modern...if that's what you're looking for. Kind of Blue by Miles Davis is a good starting point for jazz. The Ken Burns soundtrack from the PBS series gives a good overview of artists like Armstrong, Monk, Coltrane, Gillespie, Mingus, Hancock, Bird and more. I'm not much of a blues afficianado, but if you like Eric Clapton pick up the Best of Robert Cray.
