Reading the answers that you have so far, I can say that there are a lot of great songs, BUT most of them are nowhere near the mellow mood you are looking for. I used to teach young kids. For nap time, I would play mellow jazz mixes that I would create from my own collection. I got up to 43 one hour cds before I left teaching. I promise that the following songs are mellow and perfect for a rainy day. Booker Little- If I Should Loose You Lester Young-These Foolish Things Yusef Lateef- I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance With You Hank Mobley- I Should Care John Coltrane- Naima Bennie Green- Laura Herbie Mann and Phil Woods- Blood count Elvin Jones- Shadowland Tina Brooks- For Heavens Sake Kenny Dorham- Soon Sarah Vaughan- April In Paris Warne Marsh- Autumn in New York (Philly) Jo Jones- Gwen Wes Montgomery- I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face Andrew Hill- Alfred Betty Carter- I'm Yours, Your Mine Coleman Hawkins- I Can't Get Started Oscar Peterson- After All Berney Kessel- Mermaid Percy Heath- Hanna's Mood Ella Fitzgerald- Something to Live For Wayne Shorter- Teru Stan Getz- You're Blaze Johnny Hodges- Three and Six Ben Webster- Chelsea Bridge Frank Morgan- A Flower is a Lovesome Thing I'm sure you will find these mellow, they were good enough for 4 year old kids to wind down and fall asleep to. Every single song I have listed IS mellow. If you really want more than what I have listed, you can e mail me.

Angel Eyes, not sure who the composer is. Here's that Rainy Day, Midnight Voyage, Michael Brecker. Brown Midnight, Thelonius Monk. etc. By the way people, he said sad, not straight ahead pieces.

Anything mellow by Esbjörn Svensson. Surely the ballads "Hands Off" - "The Second Page" - "From Gagarin's Point Of View" etc. But also his "medium" tracks like "Seven Days Of Falling" - "Tide Of Trepidation" - "800 Hundred Streets By Feet" did make a rainy day.
