What a wonderful world by louis armstrong?

Does anybody else think "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong sounds depressing?

  • It sounds to my like someone seeing the world for the last time, and that they're seeing it, like really seeing it, for the first time. Like a terminal patient, or an old person.

  • Answer:

OMG no. Louis makes a positive statement with the song.

That's the thing about Louis, he has both sadness and joy, seemingly at the same time, in most of his songs. It has to be sincere for that to happen. The listener can hear, can focus, on whatever they naturally do when listening.

Well, it IS sung from the point of view of a mature person reflecting on all they've seen, but the lyrics do accentuate the positive. Depressing is listening to Kenny G's version of it!!

It's a tricky thing haha. Although the song is meant to be optimistic it is in a minor key. I've always wondered if Louis did this for a reason. It doesn't really make me upset but I admit it is a little sad.
