Whats a good modern Jazz band?

I like the Brian Setzer Orchestra or Harry Conick Jr.

How about Richie Cole or Bruce Foreman?

although he doesn't always stick to these roots, i would recommend a talented wood wind player by the name of Crag Yaremko. He can rock the horn bebop, but change to brazillian jazz on a whole new instrument on the next track. He can really expand your taste. search him on iTunes. i saw him in the village once. nice guy

Jamie Cullum-- He's a great artist, every album is amazing, and if you ever get the chance to see him live, do it! He isn't strictly jazz; he's kind of pop infused. I know that may sound weird, but trust me, he's amazing!

Try the Robert Glasper trio. PS- Don't worry. I would never recommend smooth jazz. For something new that's a little more modern than hard bop, I suggest the john Ellis albums. Try his album Roots, Leaves and Branches.

Why modern? How about the classics? People like Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Wes Montgomery, Al Dimeola, The Crusaders, Chick Coreas Return To Forever, Charlie Mingus, Michael Brecker, Branford Marsalis, Gary Burton, Allan Holdsworth, etc. These are great jazz people who deserve your attention even if they are not necessarily "Hard Bebop".
