Jazz is so diverse so it is impossible to find The Ultimate jazz song. But I will sort the best songs (in my opinion) in to their years 20's~ Rhapsody In Blue, The Charleston (Both by Paul Whiteman) 30's~ It Don't Mean A Thing (Duke Ellington), One O'Clock Jump (count Basie), April In Paris (Count Basie), Basin Street Blues (Louis Armstrong). 40's~ Don't Be That Way (Benny Goodman), In The Mood and Moonlight Serenade (Glenn Miller) Bebop- A NIght In Tunisia by Dizzy Gillespie, Anthropology by Dizzy Gillespie. That is alot of songs, but all of them are great tunes!

There are too many to count. However, the song that is marked as the infamous jazz piece is called "Raphsody in Blue". Personally, my favorite jazz tune is "Blue Rondo a la Turk" by Dave Brubeck.

Your first answerer is right...too many to list. Are you new to jazz? Looking for pointers on what to obtain? Can't go wrong with Miles Davis - Kind of Blue. Yeah, it's from 1959, but very clean recording and very good music. I could name a ton, but I'll just let some others add to this.

Meditations (On Integration), by Charles Mingus. Ghetto Lights, written by Andrew Hill, the most unappreciated jazz writer) and performed on the Bobby Hutcherson album called Dialogue. The African Flower by Strayhorn or Ellington, I forgot which one. My favorite version is James Newton's. Maiden Voyage by Herbie Hancock If I Should Loose You, I forgot who wrote it, maybe Hoagy Carmichael. Favorite version is by Booker Little.
