Who do you think is the best female vocalist in country music today?

Iris DeMent. There is NOBODY out there today who can get more pure emotion out of every syllable she utters than Iris DeMent. And she actually sounds country, too.

Carrie Underwood

It's between Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood. Reba is so pure and true to herself and her fans. She is the queen of country music and still proves it to this day. Her voice and her music is true country. Carrie has an amazing voice and she has stayed true to herself this past fews years. I'm proud of her. It's hard to maintain your sanity and stay true in the business today, but she has done it.

For pure vocal talent I'm going to have to go with Gretchen Wilson. She's an outstanding vocalist, yet some people still don't seem to realize it. Martina McBride is also a great vocalist, but Wilson tends to stay more true to what country really is while also venturing into some southern rock. Do note that, if you didn't have that limit of an artist releasing an album in the last five years, I would've gone with Katrina Elam who lost her record deal before her second album came out and, because of that, her second album was never released (though she did have a single released in either 2006 or 2007).
