Fellow music lovers:is there a simple way to learn how to read music?

You have to practice! You weren't able to read written word just because you knew all the letters right? Same thing applies to reading music. Just because you know which notes are which doesn't mean you can read. You've got to practice.

Not really. I could post some websites that explain or "decode" sheet music for you, or help you identify notes located on a guitar fretboard, but unless you sit down in front of some sheet music and actually try to play what's in front of you, you won't ever really learn. You need to practice, and practice a lot. It'll be tedious at first, but once you get the hang of it, sight reading becomes more automatic so you don't have to think about each and every little note or chord. You could try using flash cards, and a notespeller. as everyone else said though, the only way you get better at it though is to practise, these are just resources to help you practise. and reading music is important regardless of what instrument you play. it will help you to be able to play more styles of music.
