Is Air India good in travel?

How can one apply for visas in India, for long term travel to more than 15 countries across 3 continents in a span of 1 year without air ticket and hostel bookings?

  • I plan to travel for a year, will book one-way ticket to Bangkok. I'll be travelling across SE Asia, Europe and South America for a year. Will I be able to get the Schengen visa from SE Asia itself? Similarlly for South American countries, I need the visa from Europe and avoid the hassle and costs of returning to India.

  • Answer:

It is quite possible to apply for a visa in a place which is not your  home.   Not every country has an embassy in every other country for a  start.   So you can apply for a Schengen visa in Bangkok even though  your home is(?) in India. Application  is one part of the problem.   Actually getting the visa approved is  another.   You may be lucky like my father was many, many years ago.    In the late 1940s, after WW2, he had to go to Canada on business.   He  went to the US Embassy in London because he knew that while he was in  Canada he wanted to visit some friends in New York.   The US Embassy was  very nice and told him to apply once he was in Canada, so he did.    When he went to get the visa in Canada he got the visa with little  problem except the official who granted it admitted he could see no  reason why the London Embassy had told father to apply in Canada.    However, I fear things have become less laid-back than in the 1940s and  applying away from home may be a little more complicated. The  really critical things are that you have to be able to prove that you  will leave the country you are applying to and that you have money to  support yourself.   The requirement to prove you will leave Thailand may  mean that holding a one way ticket to Bangkok is not enough.   Indeed  the airline may not even allow you to board the plane.   Thus,  in Bangkok, whilst you can apply for a Schengen Visa, I doubt you will  be granted one if you do not have a ticket to leave and a visa for the  country that your ticket is going to.
