I have a piano that is over 100 years old and in great condition. How can I find out what the value is if I wanted to sell it? Ebay didn't show it and can't seem to find it ...show more

Answer:
www.bluebook of pianos.com Or any of the Larry Fine books. Just because it is old, is no guarantor of quality of value. The Pierce Piano Atlas will give you the date of manufacture - but unless it is one of the BIG Names - Steinway, Chickering, Mason and Hamlin - from 100 years ago, you may find that the IVORY in the keys is worth more than the instrument. It is also possible that it is either a *short* - 85 notes instead of 88 - or low pitch - tunable only as high a A=435, not A=440 - which would make it unable to successful accompany any modern instruments.

You dont say what kind of piano it is - upright or grand. Since you "can't seem to find it anywhere online" I'm presuming it's not a major manufacturer. It sounds like it may be what is called a stencil piano - not a bad thing, they can be great pianos. Unfortunately, old pianos don't have much resale value - people give them away on Craigslist. I'd suggest you call a local piano tech - you can find them under piano tuners - and ask him or her - they'll give you a straight answer. And what may look to you you to be great condition - a piano that old may well need restoration which will severely inhibit its sale value. And remember a piano is "worth" what you can get paid for it. No more, no less, no matter what anyone says.

Pianos in good condition cost A LOT make sure you reseach your piano and don't get cheated if you sell it. A new baby grand today can cost $10, 000 and way up.

Why would you sell such a treasure? If you live in Colorado, I would gladly buy it. But I highly doubt you do. Heheh.. Antiques Roadshow?
