Answer:
Unless you have a specific need for a digital piano, an acoustic is always the preferred choice.

Get a real piano...but to Michelle, how are digitals nicer looking than a nice grand?

Any piano is a great piano. If you want to play with lots of sound, in a digital piano you control the sound but in a grand piano you get the sound by how you play it. If you want a piano that gives you everything you want, the best thing to do is talk with a professional pianist.

I would go for a digital piano; they take up less room, easy to move, volume control and a headphone socket to spare your neighbours late at night.

I personally think that an acoustic piano is often the better choice. It helps develop strength and tonal control which you can take to other acoustic pianos . . . HOWEVER, If your budget is limited and all you can afford is a crappy acoustic, then go with the digital. I'm currently in the process of getting a new piano myself as the one I've had since childhood is really nothing to brag about. It's action is by far worse than the digital as it is so light and you can hardly control the tone you are trying to produce. So again, if the budget is limited, get a digital, otherwise get a fairly recent or new piano. (Not a baby grand though, there are better uprights than the best baby grand). Good luck!

Do you have the space for a grand? I think if you can''t get a grand piano you should go for a really nice digital one, because uprights and baby grands are lame. Digital ones have cool features, like you can record yourself and listen to it afterward. Or if you're playing some impossible Bach fugue you can record one hand alone, then practice the other hand with the recording of the first hand. I guess it depends on what kind of place you live in.

Digital would be cheaper, but nothing sounds as good as a real piano. I would love to have a nice baby grand instead of my upright.
Andrea
I think a real piano is still better. You can definatly hear the difference. I own both and still prefer my normal piano.

Depends on your needs If you want to be a concert pianist or you are on a professional music career you should by at least an upright piano. If you want to be creative and you want to play and bring your piano at weddings parties etc by a digital piano.
