How do I learn to play an accordion?

Should I learn to play the cello or the accordion?

  • I have already gone about as far as I can on the piano and want to take up something new. Let me know what you think and why. If you play either of these please let me know how you ...show more

  • Answer:

I'm going to say accordion because it's turned into an underrated instrument. Stay the heck away from "Lady of Spain" and focus on real music. ... If you're going to do the accordion don't be a statistic or a stereotype.

OK, you haven't gone as far as you can go with the piano, in your heart you must know that. If you think Astor Piazzolla is the best composer ever (and I love his music) learn the accordion by all means. Otherwise the cello has way more great music composed for it.

Of course cello is a better instrument and you can play classical music...however, as I play the accordion and just love it, I would ask you to think if you could learn both.. The cello does require a lot of practice and learning, it is hard to play it.. But if you learned the accordion at the same time, this would not be a problem, especially because you already know some piano, and the accordion is half a piano! The accordion is a very handy instrument..You can carry it everywhere, to the field, picnics, etc. and does not require electrical power.. It is a lovely instrument!! I also play classical piano, but I also love my accordion! The best of luck to you... PS. If you go for the accordion and have any questions, I will be very glad to help you out, I am an accordion teacher.. E.mail me to: [email protected]

Accordion, for the simple charms of its look and its sound. The Cello is big and bulky, while the Accordion, you can take anywhere.

You have already gone about as far as you can on the piano? Huh? You do know that one side of an accordion is basically a small piano right?

Cello simply because it has a better sound and has more playable pieces listen to this masterpiece

The Accordion. It is a much more versatile instrument and you are not locked into a single sound or type of music. You can play classical, country, rock, blues, jazz, or any other style especially if you have a midi connection. A big plus is that you don't need to play along with any other musicians to sound complete like you would with the cello. Take a look at the Roland reedless accordion. By the way the accordions come with either piano looking keys or buttons on the right side and although the keys look like piano keys, they work differently and the technique is much different from the piano. Techniques that work with the piano would be bad habits on the piano accordion. Good luck

THE CELLO! I played the cello for about a year and then due to certain reasons, i had to stop. i loved it and i wish i could still play it. there is so much more you can do with a cello than an accordian. And really, cellos are not big and bulky. i play the electric bass and i really want to start on an upright and learn the bow all over again. i think overall, the cello will help you the most with music.

"A gentleman is one who can play the accordion---but doesn't" ---George Bernard Shaw The accordion is a fantastic instrument when it's in it's own element...but the cello is far more versatile and it will force you to become a better musician, especially when it comes to phrasing and the feel of a melody.
