Why are long fingers more superior to short fingers when it comes to playing the piano?

Well there aren't fingers that are too short. I started a while back and I have huge hands. I have a span of an eleventh with ease and I can strain myself to do a twelfth. This means octaves are ridiculously easy for me. I can do them with my thumb and forefinger or pinky and middle finger. This means I'll never have to strain my self doing anything but Rachmaninoff. Still small hands don't stop people. Chopin was a very small person and he's still thought to be one of the greatest virtuosos that ever lived.

Its just easier to reach the keys

Because there are many compositions that require chords to be played where the notes are more than an octave.

you can reach more keys easily if you have long fingers than if u have short fingers

u can stretch long ones further, though you can exercise short ones to make them more limber

The longer your fingers, the longer the key span. Sergei Rachmaninoff was known to have the largest key span at 12 white keys comfortably. A lot of his pieces are not able to be played the way he originally wrote them because most don't have his span. :)

becasue in certain peices of music it is required to play notes that are located far apart from each other. longer fingers can reach farther so it's easier.

I think there's no such superior in fingers... that was one of my problems when i had my keyboard lesson but one thing i can advice her is to Take More Patience. Not only in Keyboard but also in Guitar. Anyways, always practice makes you perfect! Good Luck! God Bless You Always!

Don't let anything hold you back. There is a Concert pianist in South Korea who plays fantasy impromptu and she only has FOUR fingers! I'm not kidding.
