What kind of pieces should you be playing?

Is it normal to be playing level 8 piano pieces after only playing for two years?

    Normal? NO -- it is absolutely unheard of. You are quite obviously a rare prodigy and I would go out immediately and seek a concert manager so you can go on the road exhibiting your rare and remarkable talent, I would recommend that you increase you repertoire somewhat, because audiences might feel a bit cheated getting to hear only those two pieces. Try to put together 2 or 3 different programs of about an hour and a half each in length. A person of you rare abilities ought to be able to do that in a matter of weeks. Make sure that you program some favorites -- like Bela's Lullaby and A River Runs in Me -- audiences love that common touch, you know. And don't forget the encores! Fur Elise, Moonlight Sonata and the like -- and other rarely heard nuggets of beauty. Wow -- I am so excited to have met a person like you. Please let me know when you will be visiting my town, so that I can glimpse you and tell people "I remember when..." G.

It always bothers me a little when someone ask this question. I feel insecurity may be the motivation behind these type of questions, the need for lots of "atta boys". As a piano salesman I hear endless bad attempts by customers attempting to play Fur Elise.or the Fantasie Impromptu or the Pathetique Sonata. I would much rather hear simpler pieces played well than more difficult pieces played horribly. So it is not the level of the piece so much as it is how well you are playing these pieces. It is impossible to answer without and audible example. Youtube provides the format you provide the video and then ask this question again along with the link.

Your good. Naturally. Just a natural talent. I'm a violinist, and it took me about 5 years to start playing grade 8 pieces. I'm actually just now starting on them. Keep it up

Because, by the sounds of things, you have a natural talent for piano. There are some people who couldn't tell a white key from a black key and then there are people who sit down at the piano with a piece of music and for some reason are amazing at it. There's nothing to worry about, be proud of the fact you can play grade 8 pieces.

As a singing student I could perform recital standard Grade 8 songs in my early teens. . But my music theory was much further behind and my sight readinbg VERY bad!! So in my case my musicianship wasn't all that great. Just was fortunate enough to have a knack for singing and a mature sounding vocal quality

Some people just have a natural talent for it. There again, as has already been said, it's not the difficulty of pieces you are playing, it's how well you're actually playing them. I got my Grade 8 Piano after 3 years.
