There are two concertos I canNOT stand, even though I love everything else both composers have written. First up: I have always LOATHED Mozart's Flute and Harp concerto. Even when I was a flute player, I detested it. I don't know why - to me, it just sounds so - well, twee. And unlike all of Mozart's other stuff, this concerto really does seem to be severely, er, testosterone-challenged. Gawd knows what kind of head-space Mozart was in when he composed this bit of fluff. And second: I really can't stand Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Trumpets. There are two reasons for this, but neither of these are Vivaldi's fault: 1. Apart from one recording I've heard, the tempo of the first movement is either way too fast or too jolly slow - and in the one recording where the tempo felt right, the trumpets were out of tune. 2. The final nail in the coffin was the day I heard a presenter on a community radio station, announcing - in a total, bored-sounding monotone: "Next up is a concerto for two trumpets and orchestra by Vivaldi they are playing it on natural trumpets it is really amazing I don't know how they do it on these old instruments..." all mumbled in one breath, no pauses, no inflection, nothing. She must've had a magic mushie omelette for breakfast, who knows. And to top it off, she pronounced Vivaldi as "Viv-AWL-deeeeee." (but Miss LimLam, if you can recommend a good recording of the Vivaldi to me, I'm happy to reconsider...) Hafwen x Edit: Hi Miss LimLam - the concerto I'm referring to is RV 537 - originally for 2 trumpets and orchestra - but maybe it was arranged for 2 trumpets and organ...and if it's the same work you'll be performing - wow, I'm so-o-o-o sorry! But I'm sure you'll do it all the justice it deserves. Good luck! Maybe you could post your performance on YouTube... H x

Mine is Rachmaninoff's "3rd Piano Concerto". In my opinion, its sole claim to popularity - rather, "fame" if you will - is its enormous difficulty to perform. Otherwise it's nothing but a lot of "romantic, clap-trap": in short, musical garbage. And I'm not running for cover; so give me all the TD's you wish. Alberich

Okay, Debussy fans please don't kill me, please! But I cannot stand Clair De Lune. I'm sorry! I can dig his other material but Clair De Lune-not so much. Sorry!

Fun! For me... Grieg's In the Hall of Mountain King. It's not a very good piece to begin with, and Grieg himself detested it... Yikes... It's Just so terrible. Quite honestly, if I hear Liszt's liebestraum 3 played one more time, I think I'll dig Liszt's grave up and punch him. Rachmaninoff's prelude opus 3... Eek! Especially because most teenagers butcher it. Those are the main ones...

I really don't suffer from the "overexposure" problems that most people are complaining of. Probably because I don't listen to Classic FM or any other sources that propagate over-exposure of classical pieces. I can still hear all of those over used pieces and not groan. There are pieces that I am less fond of, but very few that I cannot stand to listen to.

OH this is EASY. Bella's Lullaby. I can never get sick of any classical music, I don't care what it is. OK - what is totally funny about this thread. thumbs up and down would work OPPOSITE. I had no idea so MANY people from the classical forum enjoyed the musical brilliance of <insert garbage>

I have a big aversion to für Elise, and to the Moonlight Sonata. Possibly cause my mom always tried to play these two pieces, and wan't very good at them, even though she said she had had piano lessons... Actually, I'll listen to anything, once. It's in the constant repetition that gets on my nerves. tha's why I don't undertand the need for the primitive "beat track" that goes on in popular music. I'm not so thick that I can't think that in for myself without having it pounded into me. Hmm, add Bolero to the "not" list at this point. I think it has to do with the old " familiarity breeds contempt".
