What exactly is Kwanzaa?
-
I know it's an African holiday, but I don't know what it's for. What is celebrated? What culture celebrates it?
-
Answer:
A made-up, pretend holiday that was created because some people of who were decended from African immigrants centuries ago thought that Christmas was to "white". It was first celebrated in the late 60's, invented by a man with dark skin named Ron Karenga, who was not born in Africa nor a citizen of any African country but claimed to be African American. This would be the logical equivalent of calling George Washington "British American". In any case, it is much less widely celebrated now as there are less racial issues now than there were in the late 60's and early 70's.
