Can white people celebrate Kwanza?

Can white people celebrate Kwanza? I ask this because I have never heard of a holiday excluding or only including one race.

Answer:
If you understand the celebration and the dynamics of your life and the convictions of your heart leads you to want to be part of it, then by all means do so. The dynamics of race in the U.S., with all its history of inclusion and exclusion, might prove a bit challenging, since this celebration was born of our need and desire to have a celebration that gives focus to our (African/African American) history, heritage and contemporary issues. Many of us have been extremely protective of that to the point of exclusion. But it's evolving and more of us are opening up and understanding the contribution that the principles and precepts of Kwanzaa hold for anyone and everyone who desires to join our celebrations. While the Scottish organize their cultural celebrations to serve their own needs and interests, I assume anyone is welcome to attend and participate. I could be wrong; I've never been. But I don't have any problem with them doing their thing. I don't know of any reason to be negatively concerned. I think Kwanzaa falls into that sort of cultural/spiritual perspective. Kwanzaa is a day of recognition that was made-up by African-Americans with African roots to celebrate their nativity. It is meant to commemorate and respect their African ancestry and tradition. Can you celebrate it? Well, it wouldn't really make sense unless you had some kind of African ancestry. But there are white Africans, so technically yes, you can be "white" and celebrate Kwanzaa. If you weren't an African descendant though, it'd be like celebrating Christmas when you're Muslim. It wouldn't really work.
