Can you clean contacts of an eye infection?

If you wear contacts and you have an eye infection will the infection come back if you use the contact again?

  • I wear contacts and they are my last pair. I think I am getting a minor infection in my left eye, will it go away by itself if I just don't wear my contacts for like a week? ...show more

  • Answer:

Yes take the contacts out NOW! If you get an eye infection always remove your contacts and throw them away. Try going a day without them and see if your eye feels better. If not call an eye doctor right away. Don't take a risk on your eyes.

Obviously the infection will come back. The infection is in the contact if the contact has been in the infected eye. Always replace your contacts if you get an eye infection.

The infection will go away if you take the contact out but if you put it back in it will come back because that contact is old and expired and no matter how many times you wash it, it will still cause an infection. Trust me, get a new pair. It saves you a lot more time than experimenting with what will happen to your eye if you continue wearing that contact. lol

Obviously sound advice has already been given in the respect of not using contacts whilst you have an eye infection. My advice is to give your contacts a rest to give the necessary time/chance for your eye infection to clear up. Are you cleaning/sterilising your contacts in the correct amount of solution and often enough ? You do not say what type of contacts you use.....daily disposables, monthly disposables etc., If the eye infection keeps reoccurring then I would suggest seeking the advice of your lens specialist.

I don't know, but if I were you, I would get rid of those contacts immediately and get yourself another pair. You're just asking for trouble if you don't.

I really don't advise to use your contacts during or after an eye infection, I would use my glasses in that case
