Answer:
It's not safe, i know people with myopia that was ok after the surgery but 2 years after the myopia starts worse then before. And if you had surgery you can't use contacts again. Doctors normally don't tell that and always want to sell the surgery.

It was the best surgery I ever had. I was awake the entire time, it took a few seconds, I sat up and read the clock across the room without any lens. It was a miracle. Totally safe, I am not 100% sure about having it done in a place where you aren't insured, but it's your choice.

LASIK eye surgery is generally considered to be a safe and effective method of treating near-sightedness, far-sightedness, and astigmatism and millions of people undergo this procedure every year throughout the world. No surgery is without risks or complications, however, and this must be understood and accepted before making the decision. The most common side effects of LASIK eye surgery are dry eyes and glare. The incidence of these are debated between proponents and opponents of the surgery. The FDA considers the risks to be low enough to approve the technology required for LASIK (microkeratomes, excimer lasers, etc.) Safety can be increased by selecting a skilled surgeon using the best technology. Studies show that experience is one of the most important factors in selecting a surgeon. There is a really good San Diego Lasik website that has lots of info and some very informative Lasik articles. i have been legally blind since i was in 3rd grade. i just got lasek in oct. '06 and i couldn't be happier. i love it, but with all surgeries there are risks. my benefits outweighed my risks tremendously so i decided to get it. best thing i ever did my vision is 15/20 in both eyes. choose your doctor wisely and don't rush into anything that sounds too good to be true because it usually is.

Yes it is safe in the US. Do not go to another country for surgery. Spain doctors do not have to follow US regulations. Have it done here in the USA if you live here. And it is Lasik not lasek. I recommend TLC eye centers. tlcvision.com They did mine and now I see better than perfect.

Lasik is generally safe, but as with all procedures, there can be some risks. If you have a very bad vision problem (like certain cases of severe myopia) the laser can weaken your eyes, resulting in cataracts (this actually happened to friend of mine) or other complications. On the other hand, my uncle had it done several years ago (myopia -5.50 on each eye) and hasn't had any problems to date. Spain is a good choice for the surgery. Colombia is also very good, their doctors are trained in europe, and less expensive. You should talk to your doctor to see if a corneal implant is more appropriate; but if your correction nedd isn't too high, I'd say go for the lasik.

I've heard both good and bad results. A friend of mine came out with worse vision than she went in with and can never wear contacts again. She went to a highly recommended doctor. Another friend has to have the operation every couple of years, still nowhere near 20/20.

A co-worker/friend of mine did it years ago and had excellant results.
