  • Answer:

If you are talking about taking the lenses out everyday, then there are soft lenses FDA approved to wear everyday for a year. This is called "conventional" wear and has largely been replaced by disposable contacts (1 day, 2 week, 1 month, or 3 month lenses). Replacing contact lenses more frequently is advantageous as they stay cleaner and more comfortable that way (in addition to costing less if you tear one or lose one). Gas Permeable lenses (aka hard lenses) are generally approved for daily wear for a year as well, though they have the potential to last longer. If you are talking about sleeping in contacts, then there are both soft and hard lenses approved for sleeping in up to 30 days straight, though its not for everyone.

I have never heard of contacts you can wear for more than a week. It's not really a good idea to wear your contacts overnight as your eyes could dry out or you could do damage to the eyeball itself. The most common kinds of contacts are daily wear, extended wear, toric and gas permeable. There is supposed to be some exercises that will strengthen you eyes and limit or do away with your need for glasses or contacts. I don't know where to find it. You might be able to pull it up on google. You can also check into laser surgery too. See if you are a candidate for the surgery. I'm not, but a friend of mine had it done and she LOVES it. It's worth a look.

If there is such a lens, I've not heard of it and I am a lens wearer. I have lens that do well for about 30 days, but unlike the eye, a contact lens cannot clean itself. They need to come out for cleaning to avoid eye infection, but can be reinserted. A year? afraid not.

yes, you can get "hard" contacts instead of "soft" , but they are very uncomfortable!

what eye doctors call "extended wear" means sleeping in the lenses. there are only 2 products approved for 30 day extended wear in the U.S..."purevision" by bausch & lomb, and "night & day" by ciba. there are all kinds of lenses out there. daily disposable lenses, weekly disposable lenses, bi-weekly disposable lenses, monthly disposable lenses, quarterly disposable lenses, semi-annually disposable lenses and annually disposable lenses. each type has a different material and design. the most common modality in the U.S. is bi-weekly disposable contact lenses or "two-week" lenses. a few common two-week products are acuvue, biomedics and o2 optix (there are many more). the annual replacement lenses would be the "kind you can wear for a year", but they involve never sleeping in them and significant care. this modality is slowly falling out of favor because the disposables are more comfortable and more healthy for your eyes, as well as being easier to care for. there are gas permeable or "hard" lenses that last a year. they are generally daily wear as well (not designed to be slept in).

There is a brand of contact lens that you can wear up to a month. You shouldn't wear them longer than that. I worked for an eye doctor and many serious eye infections are caused by contact lens overwear.

l wear contact lenses and mine are prescribed for a year and yes now there are lenses you can wear overnight for a max period of 30 days but there are different types it would be advisable to have your eyes checked before you start wearing them

I wear acu view for about a month or two and then I change them. The Day and Nights are good also. I don't think I would want to wear a pair much longer than that because you could develop a decease.

I use to wear contacts that were good for a year, but the last few months that were left i would develop bacteria on them and it would cause me to have pink eye. After the second year of that happening, i got disposable kind, i throw them away after a month.
