Answer:
The origins of Halloween are Celtic in tradition and have to do with observing the end of summer sacrifices to gods in Druidic tradition. In what is now Britain and France, it was the beginning of the Celtic year, and they believed Samhain, the lord of death, sent evil spirits abroad to attack humans, who could escape only by assuming disguises and looking like evil spirits themselves

Halloween was the pagan festival of the harvest. Christmas was the pagan festival of the winter solstice. None of them have anything to do with god, the christians made that stuff up to destroy the original culture/meaning behind these festivals. And they mostly succeeded judging by some of the posts.

1st November is all hallows day - all saints day All Hallows eve - or Halloween - was supposed to be the day that spirits had the most power, before being suppressed by the holiness of the sacred 'all hallows' day. as with most Christian holy days (ie, Christmas/yule) the date is a corruption of a pagan holy day.... the pagan festival to celebrate harvest home.... The intrinsic reason behind the (pagan) celebration was not at all evil or wicked....basically it was 'made' evil by the christians when they suppressed the pagan celebrations

In the ancient Celtic religions, Halloween was referred to as Samhuin (pronounced SAH-win) and it was the beginning of the new year. It was thought to be a time of great significance and magic, and the time of the year when the veil between the living world and the world of the dead was thinnest, and people could contact their ancestors and departed loved ones. It was a night to honor the dead, not to worship them. When the Christians arrived in the region, they found the practice of honoring the dead to be deeply ingrained in the culture, and much like many of their other festivals, they invented a religious observance of their own to coincide with it rather than to try to eliminate it. The new feast was called All Saints' (or Souls') Day, or All Hallows' Day, and the night before was called All Hallows' Evening or Hallow's Eve (like Christmas Eve). Eventually, the name degraded into Halloween. The practice of giving out candy to children has many popular theories of its origin. One of them being that since offerings of foods were left for the visiting ancestors on the doorsteps of the living, beggars would come around and take the offerings, and would often dress up as ghosts of the departed, faeries or goblins to do so. This is just a theory, and there are others, but most of the records from that time have either been locked away, rotted, or been destroyed by the Church so there is little in the way of actual proof. Though many hard-line Christians will tell you that this is a Devil's celebration, it's interesting to note that the originators of the celebration, the Celts, did not even HAVE a devil figure in their pantheon. The Devil, the great Adversary of God and/or Man is a Judeo-Christian concept. The tendency to attribute Pagan holidays as "Devil" worship is nothing more than reactionary backlash from small-minded zealots who cannot accept that others believe differently than they do, so they play it off as "evil".

Christmas isn't about God. Christmas is about commercialism. And vulgar brinkmanship among the little people. So is Halloween. And Valentines day. And all the rest of the crap promoted by retailers whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Its about when these witches who went to this house and asked for the parents children, but instead they gave them gingerbread children. So they went to all the houses asking for food and if they didn't have anything they would play a trick, i.e. turning them into a frog.
