How can I find my career path?

Can someone help me find my career path?

  • Background: I am a twenty-two year old female who was recently graduated with an AA in Liberal Arts. Now it is time for me to find my career path, and I've been struggling with ...show more

  • Answer:

I would say a 4 year degree is key. It is hard to get a job with larger companies but we have hired good people from a temp agency. If you can work as a temp for one great company they will hire you later if you are great at what you do.

Actually, an AA in Liberal Art's is not much to go on...maybe you should go back to school, and get a minimum of a Bachelors in Business, etc. The thing is in life...there are NO "easy" roads to success(regardless of how we have been brain-washed on how everything must be 'convienient', with little or no input). If you are organized and determined, you'll do fine.

It sounds like HR to me. Try it. You see the same people almost everyday. If you are an HR specialist you will get paid more than a secretary.

I have helped many people using the "Golden Thread". You need to have some idea of your Life Purpose. My definition of Life Purpose is: How do I use my gifts, talents, skills, and abilities; Doing something I am really passionate about; That will make a difference in the world; And leave a legacy. First list all your gifts, talents, skills, and abilities on one piece of paper. Then list all the things you are REALLY passionate about on another piece of paper. Then list all the ways you could make a difference in the world (don't be afraid to dream big) Finally think about what you'd like people to say about you when you die. When you put all the pieces of paper together, try and find a path or golden thread. The Golden Thread should give you an idea of who you are, and what your purpose in life could be. Once that is all done, you should align as many of the things in the lists (The Golden Thread) to a possible career. You will then have an awesome chance at succeeding, and being fulfilled. I hope this helps.

Since you do not have a strong idea of which career to pursue, I strongly encourage you to talk to a career advisor / counselor at a local community college and ask him / her to let you take a Strong Interest Inventory to help you identify your career interest. I recently took this inventory and its amazing how it pulls out your real interests and then maps those interest to potential careers. We each have been given a set of God given talents, you need to figure out what they are and build on them to create a life for yourself and to hopefully improve other peoples lives as well. It is important that you find something that you can be passionate about. The interest inventory may help you see all the interests you have and which careers are available that will leverage those interests. While you can find free versions of the Strong Interest Inventory online, it is best if this is done via a career counselor at a school or a near-by college since they can help you interpret the results. Also check out the website on personal decision making listed in the sources section. It will help you see other decisions that are related to your career decision. Like what is the vision you have for your life and what are your core values. You need to think about those decisions so you can better decide which career best fits what you would like to do with your life. I wish you well and hope you find this helpful. Good luck!
