Choose French! Japanese or chinese you would have to learn a whole new way to write their symbols/letters. As an english speaker and reader it would be easier for you to learn french! It takes years for chinese children and japanese children to learn their own languages! Some of them will never even learn all the ways to write it. Many people speak french (Canadians, Europeans, etc). So choosing French is your best bet for mastering a language (speaking and writing) than chinese or japanese. Only choose those languages IF you plan on studying them the rest of your life and working for a japanese or chinese company. My cousin studied japanese because he planned on working for a japanese computer company and he was actually hired over other people because he could read and speak the language some. But if he wasnt going to work for a japanese company it would have been a waste.

Given the choice, particularily if you wan't to work in the east I would chose Japanese as it will give you access to one of the worlds largest and most powerfull economies.

I think you should prefer Mandarin - that would be a big advantage. French - yes it's fascinating - but where can you use it? I think the future belongs to English and Mandarin. Even Spanish would be of more use. It's spoken in much more an bigger countries.

There are many good languages you can choose, but since there are over a billion mandarin speaking people, you can't go wrong there!

Let me start out by saying French is a terrific, and beautiful language. I myself liked German, Spanish was very hard for me. here in America it's good to know spanish, but your question now ;). depending on where you want to go overseas, if japan obviously japanese. china obviously mandarin, or if you feel like spreading to Europe of even America, learn French! Even though i haven't studied in a while German or French aside, i remember them both really vividly. you know why? it's because there both so easy to learn, and since you speak english, French you are going to start off with a blaze and achieve in it. chinese and japanese are of course very hard to learn because not only it's a very different language, us in America have a really hard time reading the lettering! But if you can read the writing then learn mandarine chinese because if you want a job in Singapore thats your best bet. Luckily and crazely enough, my aunt lived in Singapore! so i know a little bit about it, but sadly, not much about the language. Go with chinese, with the industry as you mentioned plus it will probably help you out in singapore just like spanish would help me in america.
